He asked "Jesus came through the line of Abraham, but did that bloodline come through Joseph, or Mary?"
- [Jesus Genealogy](https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1200001647) has been recorded in the bible in a few places. Starting in Genesis/Ruth, then to 1 Chronicles 1-3, and then in the first chapters of the Gospel accounts.
- Genealogy was very important to the Jews. Have several public, and private records
- The scribes and Pharisees as well as the Sadducees were bitter enemies of Christianity, and they would have used any possible argument to discredit Jesus, but it is noteworthy that they never challenged these genealogies.
- If you compare Matthews account, and Lukes account, you'll notice they differ.
- Matt 1 / Luke 3
- The difference in nearly all the names in Luke’s genealogy of Jesus as compared with Matthew’s is quickly resolved in the fact that Luke traced the line through David’s son Nathan, instead of Solomon as did Matthew. Luke evidently follows the ancestry of Mary, thus showing Jesus’ *natural* descent from David, while Matthew shows Jesus’ *legal* right to the throne of David by descent from *Solomon* through Joseph, who was *legally* Jesus’ father. Both Matthew and Luke signify that Joseph was not Jesus’ actual father but only his adoptive father, giving him legal right.
- The reason Mary was not explicitly mentioned in Luke's account, is simply because the Jewish belief at that time, was “The descendant of the mother is not called (her) descendant”
- In summary:
- (1) that Jesus was actually the Son of God and the *natural* heir to the Kingdom by miraculous birth through the virgin girl Mary, of David’s line
- (2) that Jesus was also the *legal* heir in the male line of descent from David and Solomon through his adoptive father Joseph

Shared various scripture above,
- 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 - Love is patient and kind, etc.
- Ecclesiastes 4:6 - Better is a handful of rest than two handfuls of hard work and chasing after the wind
- A middleground is needed. Keeping in mind with the principles of the two scriptures above, we should help, we should do what we can, but we should not sacrifice our own well being, or family's well being to do so. Especially if its "chasing after the wind."
- 1 Tim 5:4 - But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let these learn first to practice godly devotion in their own household and to repay their parents and grandparents what **is due them**, for this is acceptable in God’s sight.
- John 19:25-27 - By the torture stake of Jesus, however, there were standing his mother and his mother’s sister; Mary the wife of Cloʹpas and Mary Magʹda·lene. So when Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother: “Woman, see! Your son!” Next he said to the disciple: “See! Your mother!” And from that hour on, the disciple took her into his own home.
- Ephesians 4:31, 32 - Put away from yourselves every kind of malicious bitterness, anger, wrath, screaming, and abusive speech, as well as everything injurious[.](https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/dx/r1/lp-e/1001070153/29396)But become kind to one another, tenderly compassionate, freely forgiving one another just as God also by Christ freely forgave you.
Next time focus on the fact that even Jehovah himself had a limit, and does not tolerate all behavior, and even cut the Israelites off after they killed his son. Matt 23:37,38 - God abandoned Israel due to their rejection of his laws

Total topic switch, is having trouble with his manipulative and demanding mother. Very concerned on wanting to help and provide for her (which he has gone above and beyond), but also doesn't want to keep fueling the problem, with her lack of appreciation, and not stopping with requests. Shared

Spent probably 45 mins there. Need to do some additional research, and see if we can find something more. I'm thinking maybe look at the example of Jesus and how he treated his mother

Finally found him home, and talked for a while. Spent the first 20ish mins talking about how to make chicken stock, talking about various travels, how good it is to be able to travel. Then taled about Jesus (Christmas), read Acts 4:12, talking about how there is no way through into salvation except through Jesus. Then talked about Jesus being ruler of gods kingdom, and talked about what that is. Asked what he thought it was, and he ended up saying we just don't really know. Read Daniel 2:44, then read Revelation 21:3,4, and talked about what the effects of that kingdom are, and how its something we get to look forward to on earth. Next time maybe show the video of the kingdom, but he'll be gone for at least the next month, so check back early February.
