春节 -> chūnjié -> Chinese New Year
中国的春节 -> Zhōngguó de chūnjié -> Chinese New Year || LIT: Chinese Spring Festival 每逢佳节倍思亲 Měi féng jiājié bèi sī qīn Every time good festivals times to miss loved ones During festivals, one misses their loved ones even more.
除夕 -> Chúxi -> Lunar New Year's Eve Literally means "To remove", and 夕 was a monsters name. In order to get rid of the monster, people set firecrackers to make noise and scare the monsters away, hence the removal of it.
看春晚 -> Kàn chūnwǎn -> Watch the Spring Gala Spring Gala is a big ol party with lots of performances and everybody watches it. Everybody watches it, even witnesses, its not celebrating.
你看春晚了吗？-> Nǐ kàn chūnwǎnle ma? -> Have you watched the Spring Gala?
除夕那天的晚上有春晚
Chúxì natiān de wǎnshàng yǒu chūnwǎn
死舅 -> Sǐ jiù -> To kill your uncle 思旧 -> Sī jiù -> To miss old times
People wouldn't cut their hair because they wanted to miss the old times, but over time the words got warped, and it became "to kill your uncle". Languages weird man.
