Current ASL interpreter for deaf and hard of hearing for all of K-12

Dear Members of the Board of Education,

I am writing to express my strong interest in potentially working in the English teaching field within the Uruma City school system in Okinawa.

My name is Austin Owens. I am currently an ASL interpreter based in the United States, providing services remotely for K-12 students through a professional interpreting agency. I hold a Bachelor's Degree and a 120-hour TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certification, which further informs my understanding of language acquisition and diverse learning needs. I bring over two years of hands-on experience working directly within the U.S. school system, supporting deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing students across a wide range of academic subjects and grade levels. My background includes not only interpreting but also actively assisting students in their daily coursework, demonstrating a comprehensive commitment to the educational environment.

While I currently reside in the United States, I have recently had the privilege of spending time in Okinawa, specifically from October to December. This experience has deepened my commitment to relocating and establishing a long-term professional presence in Uruma City. I am actively researching and pursuing the necessary visa options to facilitate a sustainable and dedicated transition to Japan.

I believe I would be a valuable addition to your team because of my passion for education and my proven track record in the K-12 environment. I am deeply committed to facilitating communication, supporting young minds in their growth, and fostering an inclusive and engaging learning atmosphere.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I am eager to discuss how my experience and qualifications can benefit the students and staff of Uruma City schools. I look forward to the possibility of hearing from you regarding any available or future positions.

Sincerely,

Austin Owens
