This week, we covered the following topics:

Used after a negative tense verb to show that we are sorry we are unable to do something.
Side note: You can also use this form and add "ありがとうございました" after to thank somebody for something.
Verb in て form + ,すみませんでした
Note: be sure to conjugate the verb into negative if the verb needs to be negative. See example.
パーティーへ行かなくて、すみませんでした
I wasn't able to make it to the party, I'm sorry (Past tense)

- デートに遅刻して、すみませんでした
Note: If its your girlfriend, this is probably a bit formal. Not that we'd known.
- 宿題を持って来なくて、すみませんでした
